What does it mean to have an energy-efficient door?
What is a door’s function in the first place? We immediately think about keeping people out (protection) and keeping ourselves safe inside (also protection as well as privacy). In addition, doors also keep the noise, light, wind, heat and cold outside or inside. For example, it’s an additional barrier against those elements so that our air conditioners can cool the room much faster and more easily.
If the door is good at keeping the cooling or heating inside, we can say that it’s energy efficient. Modern doors are already good enough for that, which is why most of us don’t even have to think about whether our doors contribute to energy efficiency. Although they’re not perfectly insulated (they still allow some of the heat to come in or go out), still they do a great job in acting as a barrier against heat transfer.
What about insulating the front or interior door to further discourage heat transfer? This will work if you use weatherstrips, foam tape and other materials. However, this can ruin the overall interior aesthetics of the home or a room. Also, it will only make a tiny difference and might not be worth the effort.
